Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What kinds of applications do you host?
We host most applications that run under Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7.
Q: What kinds of applications don’t you host?
Due to security considerations, we do not support access to streaming videos from within the hosted applications. We also do not host applications which launch Internet browsers.
Q: Do you provide database services, such as SQL Server, Oracle or MySQL?
We provide full support for self -contained file –based databases, such as Access and Visual FoxPro. We can also provide a connection from your hosted application on our server to your SQL, Oracle, MySQL or any other ODBC –compatible system on a separate, external database server
Q: Can my applications write directly to my local and network drives?
Yes, your local and network drives are fully accessible from within your hosted application; they simply get mapped to their own drive letters.
Q: Can I print from my hosted application to my local printer?
Yes. You may select any local or network printer just as if you were running your application locally.
Q: What computers or devices can I use to connect to my application?
We support any Windows XP and higher versions, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Safari browsers. We also support Apple Macintosh computers running Safari or Firefox browsers; Unix/Linux running Firefox; and handheld devices (PDAs and smart phones) running Windows Mobile and Internet Explorer.
Q: Does your server support applications designed for smart phones?
Yes. At this time we support web applications for Windows Mobile devices.
Q: Can I host multiple applications on your server and switch between them using one single connection?
Yes. For example, if you have two separate applications we can set them both up on our server. You may switch between them through one connection. There is an additional charge for applications used this way. However, it is more affordable than paying for a separate connection to each application.
Q: Does your system support multi-user applications?
Yes. Your multiple connections may access the same application. Record and file locking, update contention and other multi-user considerations must be handled by your software.
Q: How safe is my data? How secure is GalaxyKey?
Our Windows 2003 servers are protected by Cisco firewall appliances, industrial strength antivirus/antispam/antirootkit software, encrypted SSL connections as well as highly restricted individual access restrictions to protect applications from accessing data outside of their own dedicated folders.
Q: What kind of server “up-time” can I expect?
Our servers consistently reach 99.99% up-time. In other words, you may expect to be consistently connected to our servers at virtually any time, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. On rare occasions where we perform scheduled maintenance on our servers, we notify users 48 hours in advance. We do everything we can to perform scheduled maintenance on nights and/or weekends.
Q: Is my data backed up daily?
Yes. You tell us which of your files should be backed up, and our system backs them up locally once per day. Back ups also occur once per week to a remote location.
Q: What is a connection? How many connections do I need?
A connection is one instance of a program running on our server. One connection is provided for each person who uses your system on our server at one time. If you estimate, for example, that 3 people might need simultaneous access at the same time, you would purchase three connections.
Q: How do I update my programs or files on your hosted server?
For security reasons we do not allow users to copy files directly to our servers. Users may request file updates, as long as a download address (web or ftp) is provided. We will download and install your new files, usually within two business? days.
Q: Where are your servers located?
Our servers are housed in a data center in Miami Florida, U.S.A. in order to ensure security and maintain a consistent level of service. This data center is equipped with redundant local power feeds, generators, UPS power backup, fire suppression system, and sophisticated air handlers. The facility is protected by multiple stage entry points, as well as video, and security personnel.

Our e-mail –based technical support is included in your service contract. We will respond to your questions and/or requests within one business day. In case of emergency, or any other situation which requires immediate action, phone support is available for an additional fee of $75.00 per incident.
Q: What kind of support issues can I expect?
Our customers find that technical support is rarely, if ever, needed after installation and launch of their application. Our server staff continuously monitors server performance, and responds immediately to any hardware–related problems. Our software support staff makes sure that the server software is optimized at all times for fast, trouble free operation.
Q: Do I have to sign up for a one year term?
You may use our service on a month-to-month or annual basis. We offer a discount for annual contracts.
